Colaba has got a very interesting array of shops on the Causeway, enjoy bargaining at he streetside shops for clothes, intricate jewellery, trinkets etc. There are historical buildings, restaurants, and a feel of the old and new blended in.

My favorite place in Bombay to be along with your friends. Best time being the evenings. Any Traveller who wishes to feel the culture of Bombay and not Mumbai should get up here, grab a beer and make some friends as the night wears on. This place definetely paints the true picture, be it the Gateway of India, or the Taj Palace and Oberoi, Or the Cafe Mondegars and the Leopolds, or the street shopping. This place will keep to captivated.

During my Mumbai trip last december, I visited the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) in Navy Nagar in Colaba. Navy nagar as the name suggests is a hub of the Indian Navy and very close to the Gateway of India, Taj Mahal hotel, the Mantralay. I happened to visit the Colaba market as well and had dinner at a Parsi restaurant on Shahid Bhagat Singh marg where I enjoyed some great Parsi delicacies. Overall good visit.

Colaba...not yet renamed, thank god!! is a shoppers paradise, especially for trinkets & ethnic stuff. Cafe Mondegar & Leoplods are the favorite food joints there..for Indian food try FoodInn and Kamats. Bargaining while shopping is a MUST.

The island was previously known as Candil. The Portuguese had acquired these lands from the Sultanate of Cambay by the Treaty of Bassein

Colaba is a part of Mumbai where will find not just a lot of historic landmarks but the buildings around the landmarks will take you into a trip to the British Empire, now clashing with the post colonial era buildings and the more modern and contemporary life of Mumbai

This place is one of my favourite places in Mumbai. It has a wonderful sea view, Gateway of India, Royal Taj Palace Hotel, nice pubs (Leopold, Cafe Mondegar, etc). The streets are buzzing all through the night. It also has late night eats like Bade Miyan. Wonderful place and a must visit for any1 visiting Mumbai

You should know bargaining in order to be able to do some good shopping here.. the shopkeepers quote high prices knowing you are a tourist. otherwise really up-to-date modern clothes, accessories and vintage antique stuff.. scout for mementoes to take home.

Shahid Bhagat Singh road, as this long stretch is officially called, stretches from colaba p.o., to almost old customs house. In the way you can find anything and everything you are looking for, starting with historical monuments Gateway of India / the exotic Taj Mahal hotel / Schools / Churches resteraunts and of course the most famous colaba causeway shopping area. The giant musuem housing historical items of history, is centrally located near Regal cinema. Have fun in Colaba!
